Long Distance Motorcycling

Long distance motorcycle trips tend to either be fantastic, or an uncomfortable experience of long roads.

There are many variables that will effect the enjoyment of the journey, but it largely depends on the type of motorcycle you are using. Sports and tourer motorbikes are designed with long distance travel in mind, and will make the journey much more enjoyable than if you were on a different type of bike, such as a super bike.

The type of engine on the motorcycle will make a big difference on the experience of the trip. A fast revving 4-stroke engine will grate your ears and sanity over long distance. A smooth V-twin, while not as speedy offers a much smoother and sustained ride.

Using motorcycle gear suited for long journeys is going to help improve the riders experience. Loose waterproof motorcycle gear will be much more comfortable than tight sport leathers. Gear that fits well and doesn’t get cramped against the motorcycle is much easier to wear too. All of these combine together to improve the experience overall.
